Swimming Lessons

Last week Miles started his first swimming lesson, a parent-and-tot class at the new (and awesome) Provo Rec Center. I thought it would be a fun thing to do with him during my leave, and I also liked the idea of introducing him to the water early. They're not particular about which parent comes, so Brian joined us for the first session last Monday, and then again for the fourth session yesterday.

So far, Miles' favorite part of swimming is the 5 minutes or so before the lesson starts. He's usually happy and smiley and bouncy and shows a complete lack of awareness of what's about to happen. Even after four sessions, Miles has an uneasy relationship with the water.

The whole purpose, though, is to just help him get used to it, and he's making progress. Yesterday he didn't cry when we first put him in the water, and he'll sometimes put his mouth in the water on purpose and blow a mini-bubble or two. He hasn't smiled in the water yet, but he's got plenty of time to get there. When he's older, I imagine he'll love it. And to his credit, he doesn't really cry much more than his lone classmate, and she's almost two years old :).

Strange to see him without a big smile on his face! He looks pretty worried for sure! What a cutie!
