Stairwell

Part I
A couple weeks ago I came home from work to this:

There were over a hundred construction paper hearts in all, on the walls of the stairwell and the brick siding of the house and the door and the windows. There was a note, too, from the three 11-year-old girls in my Sunday school class. My neighbor Michelle told me she had seen the girls at work. Apparently they spent a good chunk of their day off of school planning and executing this heart attack. That week was a particularly busy/stressful week at work, but the hearts made me feel happy and loved every time I came home.

Autumn and Caroline got very excited when I mentioned that I might post pictures of some of their hearts on my blog. They don't read my blog, but I'll follow through and share some of my favorites:

200 times better than a real spider.

Translation.

They complain about math every week, so we're planning a math party for later this month, and they're all pretty excited. It's easy to make 11-year-olds excited.

Typo.

Because we live in Provo.

:)

Part II
I got a second surprise delivered to my doorstep yesterday. I came home from my morning run and saw a Ziploc bag tucked in the handrail by my door. At first I thought maybe someone had delivered cookies, which was sweet, and then I got closer and saw that it was actually a ham bone, which was weird.

All day long I waited for a note or text or email of explanation, and when none came I posted the photo on Facebook. This was partly to share the strangeness of having a ham bone delivered to my door, but also partly in the hopes that someone local to whom I am connected via Facebook might say, "Oh yeah, we had ham for dinner last night, and I thought that maybe your dog would enjoy the ham bone, but you weren't home when I came by so I just left it." But no. Instead I got a couple comments saying, "Maybe someone had ham for dinner last night and thought maybe your dog would enjoy a ham bone?" It's still a mystery.

I gave a little piece of the ham to my dog tonight because I trust my neighbors and think he won't die, and I really hope I'm right. Plus, there's this white bean soup I like a lot, but I never make because it requires a ham bone and I never have a ham bone handy. Now, just as soup season starts, one appears! On my doorstep! Out of thin air! I'm trying to decide just how wary I should be of this ham.

The hearts are really sweet! I love that.

The hambone however... I'd toss it. But I'm probably being paranoid.

Please update us if you find out more about it!

Maybe the ham bone is from one of your 11 year olds for Jin?

You are a great teacher! How sweet of those girls!

Deep Thought by Jack Handy:

“If you saw two guys named Hambone and Flippy, which one would you think liked dolphins most? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong though. It's Hambone.”
