Picture Flood

Miles finally came home from the hospital yesterday, after 17 days in the NICU. Because the results of his oxygen saturation test were abnormal, he was accompanied by an oxygen tank and a heart rate/breathing monitor. We had hoped to bring home a wireless baby, but our initial anxiety about the oxygen has dissipated a bit with the relief of finally having him with us at home.* We feel like we are finally a family, and in spite of the oxygen he acts like a happy, normal, mostly sleepy, super-cute newborn.

I have several more detailed blog posts bumping around in my head, but for today I just want to share just a few of my favorite Miles pictures from the past two weeks.

Holding Miles up to the NICU window so he can meet his grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles.

When we finally got to dress our baby. The newborn clothes looked so tiny when we got them that I never thought they'd actually fit the baby. I'll bet all sorts of new parents think that.

Until he can get enough of Mom's milk, and until Mom can produce enough to feed him, Dad gets to share the feeding experience.

First time in his car seat. One of my favorite face pictures :).

I'd never seen a swaddle bath until the nurses showed us how to keep him from losing too much body heat, but Miles loved it.

The coming home outfit we chose. You can't see the shorts in this picture, but I wanted a zoom-in on the t-shirt print. The clothes are newborn size, but they're huge on him! Lots of room to grow.

About to leave the hospital.

Jin tries to figure out what to make of this new baby. Mostly, so far, he's been pretty indifferent.

* The worst part about the oxygen isn't having to lug around a tank whenever we take him out of the house, and his monitor every time we move him more than a few feet, although that's annoying and we're looking forward to a time when we can just hold our baby, unfettered. It's the fact that anytime Miles' leads come come off  (which happens many times over the course of the day) the monitor lets off a jarring, earsplitting beep not unlike a smoke detector. It's unnerving for us, and it's even more unnerving for Jin, who is already terrified of smoke detectors, and has had many moments of great anxiety over the past few days.

Love that one of Jin examining Miles at the end. You should put up the video of the swaddle bath.
