Baby Boy Tanner

We had our 20-week ultrasound on Wednesday afternoon. I'd been feeling the baby move for a couple weeks at that point, but it was still a relief to hear the technician tell us that everything looked normal and healthy. And it was exciting to finally learn the gender, to finally be able to talk about him as "he" rather than "he-or-she." It was fun to actually see him move, to see that there's a real baby inside, and to have such a clear baby image in the ultrasound picture they sent us home with.

I had three dreams about learning the gender of the baby in the weeks leading up to the ultrasound, and in all of them the baby had been a boy. I have heard that the most accurate predictor of gender outside of ultrasounds is a mother's dreams and intuitions. I'm not sure I had intuitions, but the dreams certainly bore out.

Yesterday Brian felt the baby move for the first time. The movements have been getting stronger, so I'd been trying to catch them from the outside, but without success. And then last night while we were watching Nashville on the couch the baby began kicking up a storm, and we both felt him move beneath our fingers for the first time. I've started to get used to the occasional pokes and kicks, and it was so fun to have Brian finally feel what I've been feeling.

I'm not going to lie and say I love being pregnant. I don't, even though I've had a pretty easy pregnancy. But I loved watching the images on the ultrasound and seeing this little life that is growing inside me, and I love feeling him move, and I love anticipating parenthood with Brian at my side. 4 1/2 months still seems like a long time to wait to meet our little boy, but we're excited to meet him :).
