Help

When I first arrived in Provo, every single grocery store was having a sale on Cap'n Crunch, and the sales went on for weeks. Each time I went to the store, whether for a full-fledged shopping trip or a gallon of milk, I was confronted with massive 2-for-$3 Cap'n Crunch displays. And like any good consumer, each time I passed the display I would think: That's only $1.50 per box! What a great deal! I should buy some! And then the responsible shopper in me would respond: Amy, you don't even like Cap'n Crunch. It would be a waste of a perfectly good dollar and fifty cents. And I listened to myself, because the responsible shopper knows what she's talking about.

But one day that first voice got impatient with the responsible shopper and decided that there were plenty of things one could do with a $1.50 box of Cap'n Crunch besides eat it for breakfast. Goodbye $1.50, hello box of Cap'n Crunch that has sat opened but barely touched in my cupboard for four months. It turns out there are not really very many things you can do with Cap'n Crunch besides eat it for breakfast. I've made Jin do tricks for a piece here or there, but there are much better and healthier treats to give him in exchange for my personal amusement, so that's barely made a dent in the contents. I've also tried stirring some into my chocolate chip cookie dough in place of chocolate chips, and the result actually wasn't half bad. Just not good enough to use up an entire box of cereal.

If this was a box of Cheerios, it would have gone stale by now. But it is a box of Cap'n Crunch, and it has not. I'd hate to just throw the whole thing away, so I thought I'd see if anyone else has ideas about how I can use up the rest of the box. I'll take practical, or creative, or off-the-wall. I'll even take requests for the box, if you'll promise to give it a good home.

I saw a menu item yesterday, while perusing the restaurant week website: Cap'n crunch crusted mexican ice cream.

It might have been crunchberry crusting, but you could get the same effect using just plain cap'n crunch.

Cap'n crunch is actually terrific with frozen yogurt. I don't know about pairing it with vanilla ice cream, but it might be worth a shot.
If you were in MI still, i'd take it off your hands in a heart beat. I love cap'n crunch if it's free, but will never buy it for myself. Although, i'd have succumbed to the sale too.

7 Tablespoons softened butter
1/2 Cup granulated sugar
1/2 Cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 Cup creamy peanut butter
1 egg
1 Tablespoon pure vanilla
1 Cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup Cap’n Crunch Cereal, crushed with rolling pin
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a stand or electric mixer, beat the butter and sugars until well combined. Beat in peanut butter until combined then beat in the egg and vanilla.
2. In a large bowl mix the flour and salt. Slowly add to wet ingredients on slow speed. Add in Cap’n Crunch Cereal until just combined. With a medium cookie scoop, scoop dough onto a parchment or silpat lined baking sheet. With the tines of a fork, press gently forming a criss cross shape over tops. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until baked to your liking.
2 1/2 dozen cookies

or you can just give it to me ;)

The other suggestions and recipes sound really good, but here's another idea:

COLD CEREAL BARS

1 T margarine or butter
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 (6 oz.) pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter (crunchy is really good but smooth is good too)
5 cups sweetened cold cereal - your choice
1-1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

Butter 8x8 or 9x9 square pan.

Melt margarine, corn syrup and chocolate chips in medium saucepan, stirring occasionally; remove from heat. Stir in peanut putter. Gently stir in cold cereal and marshmallows until completely coated.

Press mixture in pan with buttered back of spoon. Let stand until firm (at least 1 hour) before cutting into squares.

A resturant near here has Capt Crunch crusted chicken. The cereal is crushed rather finely and the chicken breast is dredged in it as you would dredge with flour to make fried chicken. It is intesting but little ones and those with a love of all things sweet like it better than I do

Best suggestion yet:

Give the cereal to Eric and Catherine.

And since you'd also be giving it to Baby, it might help your chances of becoming Favorite Aunt.
