Record blogging week

Yesterday I finally got around to vacuuming my car for the first time since the long road trip. My little red-headed neighbor, Jack, was riding his bike on my driveway, and when he asked what I was doing I showed him my car. "Whoa," he said solemnly, and his tone of voice was entirely appropriate to the gravity of the situation. "That's a lot of dog hair!"

Unfortunately, when I went to do the vacuuming, I found that my vacuum wouldn't pick up the hair. I started taking apart various components to see if I could find a clog, and this was interesting enough to tear my little friend away from his bike. We had a nice conversation about vacuums and bikes and pet fish and how fun it is to take things apart, and then I gave up on the vacuum and we parted ways.

Today I took the vacuum in to a vacuum repair shop. Ten minutes and ten dollars later it was up and running again, so when I got home from work and errands and my red-headed neighbor friend said hello as he rode his bike past me, I told him that I had gotten the vacuum fixed.

"Oh good!" he said. "Then I'll stay here." I couldn't imagine my vacuuming would be that interesting, but I brought Jin out and tied his leash to the railing at the top of the stairs and put the neighbor boy in charge of keeping an eye on him, which really meant riding his bike up and down the driveway and occasionally trying in vain to get my dog to play with his toys. At one point I heard Jack calling out to me over the drone of the vacuum, and I switched it off and turned around.

"Look!" he said, pointing at Jin and laughing. Poor Jin had gotten himself so tangled in his leash that he couldn't even move. His tail was between his legs and his ears were back and he looked so sad and funny that I had to get my camera.

It was hard to get a good picture because Jin kept following me as I tried different angles, so Jack volunteered his services while I held Jin still (I think it's funny that he made no effort whatsoever to get my head in the picture):

Then I managed to get a picture that better captures the sad, sad predicament.

Aww...

Yeah, all that writing was just for the sake of sharing the picture.

I think your red-headed neighbor-that is an unfortunate title, it reminds me of the derogatory red-headed step child reference- and I would get along well. As we share a love for vacuuming and, as far as I can tell, bothering people:)

Poor Jin, no matter where he is or what he is doing...he seems to create something to stress on:(
