Michigan Bucket List

When I left northern Virginia some seven years ago, I felt like I hadn't taken full advantage of my time there. When I really think back on it, I did an awful lot in less than a year - trips to the Smithsonian, Mount Vernon, lots of hiking and biking trails, the Cherry festival, the Hershey factory in Pennsylvania, Monticello, Richmond, Old Rag. But there were so many things that I left undone, and I didn't know when I would return to do them.

Now that I'm on the verge of leaving Ann Arbor, I feel differently. I really have taken advantage of my time here. I've seen an awful lot of Ann Arbor, and Michigan, and the Midwest in the last five years. I certainly wouldn't mind returning in the future, but I can leave happy.

Still, I have at least two more months of summer before I have to go, and I don't see why I shouldn't try to get in some of the things I've missed before I leave. I've been constructing a bucket list in my head of things to do before I go. I don't feel compelled to do everything, but it gives me options of things I can, and hopefully will, do. The bucket list includes Ann Arbory things that I've already done but want to enjoy one last time, like Top of the Park and the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, and things I haven't done yet, like kayak on the Huron (I've canoed, but I'd really like to try kayaking) or visit Toronto or eat at Le Dog or find a random free local event on AnnArbor.com to attend.

So this is one of those petitioning-responses-blogs. For those of you who have lived in Michigan for a few months to a few years to your entire life, what would you do if you just had two months left? Or what would you recommend to someone who did?

Have you gone to Cedar Point? If you like roller coasters, you have to go at least once in your life. It's like Mecca for roller coaster fans.

The hot air balloon race in Kalamazoo is wonderful and if you like hot air balloons and want a launch closer to home check out the Melon festival in Howell.
Since Michigan is know for cars have you been to the Ford Rouge plant tour?
One of my favorite places in the state is the Sleeping Bear Dunes near Traverse City and a close second is Higgins Lake. Both have great camping grounds close by.
Lastly have you been to the Detroit zoo or the Toledo zoo. Both have great reputations as well as the DIA. It is one of Detroit's underused treasures.
