Fun fact! The year 2010 first occurs in π 1,009 digits after the decimal point.

Sometimes I just don't have much blogworthy material to work with in my life, and that's been the story of the last week or two. But I don't like to leave my blog sitting dormant for long, so instead of one fully-formed blog post, I might just post some snippets.

Today's snippet is Pi Day. I did not make a pie this year, more for lack of time than lack of ambition. But since our ward FHE tonight is a Pi Day celebration (what a seriously cool ward I have!), I couldn't do nothing. So I made apple pie cupcakes, which are round, experimental, pie-inspired, and pi-inspired, and therefore (I believe) entirely appropriate to the occasion. Plus, unlike a pie, I could make the cupcakes in stages - cupcakes, filling and frosting, numerical decor. The cupcakes themselves are spice cake with applesauce, and they have an apple pie filling and allspice cream cheese frosting. I can't vouch for their taste yet, and I may be too busy sampling actual pie to try them, but the results at least look vaguely like what I pictured in my head and tastebuds when I started out.

A happy 3.1415926535897932384626433... to all!

Yes, that was from memory.

They look delicious! If they taste as good as they look, you'll have to post the recipe.
Happy Pi Day (and yes you do have a cool ward)!
