Tanghi Argentini

I'm a fan of long stories that give me plenty of time to immerse myself in their world, and get to know the characters. That's why I love reading novels, and why my favorite television shows tend to be those with story arcs that last an entire season (or more).

Right now, though, the book I'm reading is a collection of short stories, and the other day at the library I spotted a DVD of the 2007 Academy Award nominated short films and animated shorts. I've been thoroughly enjoying both of them. They're perfect for sitting down when I have just a few minutes, like right before bed or during a meal. And there's really something to be said for the simplicity required when you only have a small space in which to work.

This is a Belgian short film, Tanghi Argentini, which I watched this morning while I was eating breakfast. I absolutely loved it, and the first thing I wanted to do once I finished was to share it. Lo and behold, YouTube has the complete 13 minute film, so here it is. It's on the long side for a blog link, but I promise it's worth watching through to the very end. I hope you do.

Here's the link to the film - I embedded it below, but I'm not sure if you can get the full picture.

(Incidentally, if I'm going to share the short, I might as well share my one critique. I think the film would have been absolutely perfect if it ended right about 10:40. I'm kind of a fan of telling only exactly as much as you need to, and that's when they reached that point.)

I liked that! It was difficult in a couple of spots because the translation would pop up and out in a matter of a second or two so you couldn't read it. I would have to backtrack and pause it to read. But I liked the story. I agreed with you about stopping the story short until I saw the very end and then I understood why they didn't. Anyway, very fun! Thanks for sharing!

I watched it Amy, and I even remembered to post a comment to prove it! It actually reminded me of a guy who works in our lab from Argentina. We had a banquet type of thing in our department and he vaguely showed us the Argentine tango...very vaguely.
