There's a dog in my house!

This time it's for real :). After trying hard to either feel good about getting the dog or to feel good about not getting the dog, and failing on both accounts, I finally realized that this was a case where I just had to make a decision and go with it. And after one restless night's sleep, and a near panic attack in the aisle of PetSmart, I found myself at the Humane Society adopting Jin and have not had any second thoughts since then. He's been a delight so far. He's still adjusting - he hasn't eaten yet (which the adoption counselor told me is normal) and he's been alternating between being curious and a little antsy, and just lying there staring at the world (that's when I caught him with the camera). He's also just slightly bemused by his reflection in the mirror - I wonder if he's ever been exposed to full-length mirrors. The first time he encountered the huge mirror behind our table he stopped and stood stock still, staring at his reflection trying to figure out what he was looking at. He hung around the mirror for a little while before he felt at ease moving away from it, and still seems slightly fascinated by mirrors.

We've gone on a long walk, and a couple shorter walks, and he's done pretty well. A little girl came up to him with her parents while he and I were sitting on the lawn while I was talking to Kelsey, and though she didn't quite dare touch him, he was completely nonchalant about the interaction. He doesn't seem to get distracted by people or other dogs (except for two little dogs that set him on edge from across the parking lot for some reason). He's very affectionate too. He'll snuggle up against me if I let him, and I feel like he's already starting to bond with me. And he seems good with people. Over the course of the evening he met (or re-met) six different people and was completely unfazed. I'm sure his curiosity and quirks are going to come out more as he gets used to his new environment, and I'm sure we'll have problems at some point or other (that's what makes having a dog interesting!) but so far I'm just amazed at his good temperament.

So there you have it - I am now a dog owner :)

Yay!! I can't wait to hear more about your adventures with Jin. And I must say, I'm really glad you went with "Jin" as a name. I feel close to him already - the Lost connection goes a long way with me.

YAYAYAYAY!

I'm sad that I probably won't get to meet him.
