I do not have a dog yet. I realize now after hearing from several people that my last post was slightly deceptive (unintentionally so). I was just posting more pictures of Gin/Jin/Djinn since I took a second trip to visit him that day with a camera in hand. I wanted readers to see my potential candidate up close.
It's reasonably likely that I'll have a dog come Monday, and if I do it's almost (but not 100%) certain that it will be Jin. I introduced Ashley today and she approves, which is important because she will be living with him for the next year. But even though he's ready to be adopted at a minute's notice, I can't bring him home until Monday, and the more time I have to mull over this decision, the more daunting it becomes. Bringing home a dog means taking on a big responsibility, and losing some of my autonomy, and adding an additional financial burden after a financially unstable summer (which is about to become much more stable, but still...). I said that I can't make this decision lightly, and the more I think about it the more weighty it becomes.
"The way I see it," my brother told me, "is that if you get a good dog, it's almost impossible to regret the decision." I think that's good advice, and I think Jin would be a good dog. Rest assured that I will let my blog readers know (in a very unambiguous way) if/when I do become a dog owner on Monday. But if over the course of the weekend I decide that this really isn't the right time for me after all, I hope my readers will not be too disappointed. Kelsey, I'm sure, will feel enough disappointment for everyone :).
Isn't he a beautiful dog?

Either way, we absolutely trust your decision.
And yes, Jim is beautiful.
I wish you would have got a dog while I lived there. I am sure if I don't become a creepy cat lady then I will be a weird dog lady. I love dogs, although I do discriminate against dogs that shed. Therefore I would recommend getting a strategically bred mutt like a laberdoodle or something. Then house guests would be more likely to not only pet the dog but also visit at all.
You don't want to be the person that looks she's always wearing mohair sweaters because you are really covered in pet hair. If you get a dog I volunteer to walk him/her periodically.
Yeah, I'll vouch for the expense, the loss of autonomy, and alienating potential guests. We really like our kennel, but $24/night any time we want to go anywhere for more than twelve hours adds up fast.
Good luck with the decision.
