Hello from New York!

So I made it safely to New York City with only a minor fiasco at the airport, and have now been here for nearly two days. One of my friends served her mission in New York, but never made it to Manhattan, so all three of us have sort of been getting used to the city together.

So far I have explored the neighborhood where we are staying, ridden the subway several times, wandered Times square, seen Hairspray, and visited the Museum of the City of New York. I have eaten New York bagels (which really are better), New York pizza (which is better than Domino's, at the very least), New York cheesecake, Jamaican meat patties and coco bread, and a New York deli black and white cookie. (That sounds like a lot of food, except that it's really about all I've eaten in the last two days.)

I have also gone running in Central Park, which I've been waiting to do almost since we started planning this trip. You really can't be an avid runner, visit New York for a week, and not go running in Central Park. I'd been wondering how feasible this would be, mostly for safety reasons, but a jaunt through the park yesterday morning while my friends were still asleep (there are pros and cons to being a perpetually early riser) convinced me that with all the walkers and cyclists and runners and dog owners out and about, and with the early daylight at this end of the time zone, Central Park is probably safer than some of the places I go running in Ann Arbor (which, mom and dad, does not mean that where I run in Michigan is at all dangerous - it's just not nearly as populated). So this morning I set out and ran the loop around the park, and once around the reservoir for good measure, and loved it. I think Central Park is probably my favorite part of New York so far, and I'm looking forward to exploring it a bit more before I leave.

Anyway, we're off to the Met in a few minutes and so I'd better sign off - I just figured that since I shelled out $10 for wireless for the day (ouch) I might as well take advantage of it. Maybe I'll write more tonight.
