Lest you question the value of a doctoral degree from the University of Michigan...

We spent nearly all of a 2 hour class period yesterday investigating the very important problem of how to change the word SHIP into the word DOCK by replacing one letter at a time.

Wow, that is difficult.

Here's my first try:

ship
shop
shod
shed
seed
deed
dead
deal
teal
teak
peak
peck
deck
dock

Oh, duh. Deal->peal->peak.

I was trying (and failing) to come up with a clever solution.

I had ship, slip, clip. Cicada looked over my shoulder and said, "You're going to need two vowels at some point, aren't you?" And then rattled off the following:

clop
coop
cook
cock
dock

Yes, we will all now quietly resent her for being so good at this game. Anyone have another set? She wants to play more.

"Dock" to "sail" is stumping me. That "ck" is a killer.
